What will the students learn about?

Paper One: Crime and punishment in Britain, c1000 to present

Paper Two: Early Elizabethan England, 1558-88 and British America 1713-83

Paper Three: Weimar and Nazi Germany, 1918-39

What skills will students develop and demonstrate?

Students will develop their knowledge and coherent understanding of selected periods, societies and aspects of history.  They will also develop an awareness of how the past has been represented, interpreted and accorded significance for different reasons and purposes.  Students will develop their abilities to ask relevant questions about the past and to investigate them critically using a range of sources in their historical context.  They will learn to organise and communicate their historical knowledge and understanding in creative and different ways and reach substantiated judgements.  They will recognise that their historical knowledge, understanding and skills help them to understand the present and provide them with a basis for their role as responsible citizens, as well as allowing further study of history.

Paper 1 – British Thematic Study with Historic Environment
Total Marks: 52: Weighting: 30% Exam Time: 1 hour 15 minutes

Paper 2 – Period Study and British Depth Study
Total Marks: 64 weighting; 40% Exam Time: 1 hour 45 minutes

Paper 3 – Modern Depth Study
Total Marks: 52 Weighting 30% Exam Time: 1 hour 20 minutes
